Paris Saint-German secured a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the Champions League on Tuesday, courtesy of a 98th-minute penalty from Kylian Mbappe. This crucial result positions the French club favorably for qualification to the last 16, while leaving their opponents in a precarious situation for potential elimination from the group stage.
Despite Newcastle's earlier 4-1 victory at St James' Park last month, they appeared poised to secure another triumph in the Group F encounter, thanks to Alexander Isak's 25th-minute goal. PSG, seemingly out of ideas, were granted a lifeline in injury time when VAR deemed Tino Livramento's handball in the box worthy of a penalty. Mbappe confidently converted from the spot, allowing PSG to maintain their second-place position in the group, just behind Borussia Dortmund, who secured a 3-1 victory against AC Milan and have already advanced to the last 16.
To secure their spot in the next round, the French champions need a victory in their final group game against Dortmund next month. Meanwhile, Newcastle's chances hinge on a win at home against Milan, coupled with a potential slip-up by PSG.
