NECO Releases 2023 Results, Reports 61% Candidate Success Rate

The National Examination Council has released the 2023 Senior SchoolCertificate Examination (SSCE) internal results.

MEDIA BRIEFING BY THE NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL (NECO) ON THE UNVEILING OF 2023 SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (SSCE) INTERNAL RESULTS, CONDUCTED ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2023, AT THE CONFERENCE HALL, NECO HEADQUARTERS, MINNA, NIGER STATE.

In a recent press briefing in Minna, NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced that 61.6% of candidates scored five credits, including English and Mathematics, in the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal. 

The total number of registered candidates was 1,205,888, with 1,196,985 candidates sitting for the exams. A breakdown revealed 616,398 male candidates and 580,587 female candidates. 

Among the candidates, 737,308 achieved five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, representing 61.6%. 

The number of candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics, was 1,013,611, equivalent to 84.68%. 

Prof. Wushishi expressed gratitude to stakeholders and highlighted the exceptional performance of the 2023 SSCE Internal, emphasizing a commitment to ongoing improvement. 

The results can be accessed on the NECO website. 

The Registrar also acknowledged support from various agencies, state ministries of education, and key personalities, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN.

In his address, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah for the successful release of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results. 

He extended appreciation to key agencies, state ministries of education, and the media for their support and collaboration. Special thanks were given to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andrew David Adejoh for their guidance and support. Prof. Wushishi also acknowledged the National Assembly, especially members of the Senate and House Committees on Education, for their collaboration.

The Registrar shared key highlights of the results, emphasizing that the 2023 SSCE Internal has been certified as one of the best in recent times. He provided detailed statistics on the number of registered candidates, those who sat for the exams, and the performance metrics. Notably, candidates with special needs were highlighted, with 1,542 candidates falling into various categories.

In line with the commitment to transparency, Prof. Wushishi addressed cases of malpractice, reporting that 12,030 candidates (0.07%) were involved in various forms of malpractice, a decrease from 13,594 (0.13%) in 2022. Sanctions were outlined for schools and supervisors found engaging in malpractice.

The Registrar concluded the briefing by officially declaring the release of the 2023 SSCE Internal results to the public. Candidates can access their results on the NECO website: www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration numbers. Prof. Wushishi expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and reiterated NECO's dedication to continuous improvement in the assessment of educational performance at the national level.

2. Pick your examination year and type (SSCE Internal, SSCE External, BECE, NCEE, and GIFTED).

3. Input the token sent to your registered mobile number.

4. Enter your registration number.

5. Click the "Check my result" button.
