Youssef, a five-year-old boy, was hacked to death with a machete by his mother, Hanaa, 29, at their Egyptian home. She then cooked and consumed chunks of his head.
The boy's body parts were discovered in buckets at the family home by Youssef's uncle, who called the police, who then detained Hanaa.
She told authorities that she had eaten a portion of her son's head because she "wanted him to stay with her together," the DailyMail said on Tuesday. She also said that she had cooked the rest of his flesh, including other portions of his skull, on the stove in boiling water before eating it.
After being detained, she admitted to having a mental disorder and not intending to harm her son to police in Faqus, northern Egypt.
Since her divorce from her husband, who maintains she was fully aware of what she was doing, she and her son had been living alone.
"When I arrived, the police prevented me from seeing my son because of the horrific scene," the ex-husband, who went by the initials H.A, claimed.
"We split up four years ago when she moved in with her father and wanted me to abandon my home and my family so we could live on the farm.
"I tried to make up with her after the divorce, but she refused and insisted on her viewpoint. As a result, the relationship terminated totally at her request."
