Following allegations that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was not used during the election in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended the collation of results from that region.
Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the state collation officer for the governor's race in Enugu State, made the decision.
Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 30350 votes, defeating Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP), who received 1855 votes, according to the results announced by the LGA's collation officer, Ogbene Nnaemeka.
However, the collation officer and the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, were alerted by the LP's agent, Dr. Eugene Edeoga, and the APGA's, Ndubuisi Enechionye, among others.
We have major, fundamental concerns to the findings being announced, according to Edeoga. BVAS was not used by Nkanu East.
"The INEC personnel argued that BVAS was ineffective, yet we are aware of what the Election Act states regarding BVAS's prohibited use. Thus, we are bringing this to your notice for your action".
The PDP candidate's home community, Owo, Nkanu East, has 200 registered voters there, according to the APGA agent. PDP received all 200 votes. Yet, since 200 was insufficient for them, they increased it to 800 even though there are 700 registered voters. Because the IReV portal also displays the enormous differences, it is apparent that these statistics were altered at the LGA collation center. Also, same events occurred in each and every voting location in Nkanu East LGA. So, take another look at it and decide whether you'll accept these outcomes.
All attempts by PDP representatives to have the results accepted were unsuccessful because the area's collation officer, Prof. Iwe, suspended the results.
So far, 16 local government area have been collated out of the 17 local government area in Enugu State.
