To win the 42km race on Saturday morning, Kibet defeated roughly 300 marathon runners.

The $50,000 grand prize will be claimed by him.

Bernard Sang of Kenya and Dekeba Shefa of Ethiopia, who placed second and third, respectively, and received $40,000 and $30,000 for their efforts, were beaten by the 39-year old at 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 6 seconds.

Ethiopia's Alemenseh Guta was the first woman to cross the finish line, and she was followed by Kenya's Naomi Maiyo and Kebene Urisa in that order.

The male and female winners of the races qualified for the marathon competition in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Felicia Adetutu, the first woman from Nigeria to cross the finish line, finished 10th in the women's event.

She received $2000 and N3 million for her two victories, respectively.

The 42-kilometer race has its starting point at Surulere's National Stadium and its finish line at Victoria Island's Eko Atlantic City.

Less than eight years after its debut, the world athletics body has upgraded the annual competition to a gold badge.

Ethiopia's Geleta Ulfata won the 2022 competition, while David Barmasai and Emmaneul Naibei took first and second place in the fifth and sixth Access Bank Lagos City Marathons, respectively.
