Every year on October 5, World Teachers' Day, often referred to as International Teachers' Day, is observed. On this day, teachers are honored, celebrated, and thanked for their efforts to their students. To identify difficulties that teachers across the nation and the world are facing and find solutions, many people gather on this day to organize meetings, seminars, and other events for the improvement of teachers welfare.
Why is Teacher's Day Celebrated
On this day, World Teachers' Day is celebrated to recognizes, honors, and inspires the accomplishments, contributions, and efforts of teachers all across the world. On this day, academics and policymakers from all around the world can discuss and find solutions to problems affecting the teaching profession.
Many schools across the globe host cultural events for teachers on this day, or even arrange for teachers-only days off. To identify the concerns that teachers around the world are facing and to try to come up with answers, policymakers and education specialists organize conferences and gatherings on this day.
The day can also be utilized to emphasize the value of excellent teachers and to mentor or inspire aspiring educators in the future.
How Teacher's Day Started
UNESCO designated October 5 as World Teachers' Day in 1994 to commemorate the acceptance of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation. This was a section of the international summit that the International Labour Organization(ILO) and UNESCO jointly organized in Paris to recognize the status of teachers.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared October 5 to be World Teachers' Day after this suggestion was adopted.
