On Sunday, the police in Lagos State reported that two individuals were subjected to "jungle justice" by a mob after they allegedly robbed a cashier at a POS in the Igando district of the state.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the occurrence on Sunday in a verified tweet that was followed by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Hundeyin claimed that the incident occurred on Independence day and emphasised that the victims were set ablaze and burned beyond recognition by the mob.

He said:
"Police arrived at the scene but the mob had fled. The investigation has commenced,”

In Nigeria, Hundeyin said that jungle justice was a criminal matter and urged the public to put a stop to the crime.

Instead, he advised that they turn over the suspect to the police so that they can file charges.

The spokesperson has since praised crime reporters for their excellent coverage of the arrests of criminals in Lagos State.

However, he encouraged the judicial journalists to go farther and inform Nigerians about how criminal cases were being prosecuted in the various courts in Lagos.

He added:
“This would halt the fallacy that, Police were collecting money and releasing suspects,”
