The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike lawsuit, which the Federal Government filed to challenge, has been postponed by the National Industrial Court until Monday, September 19, when the Federal Government's interlocutory application will be heard.
James Igwe, the federal government's attorney, asked the court to expedite the case's hearing since it was crucial that the students' case be resolved quickly so they could go back to school at the Friday session's resumed sitting.
Igwe informed the court that since the matter was already before the court, it would be appropriate for the strike to be called off while the suit was being adjudicated.
ASUU's legal representative, Femi Falana, contended that the subject was only postponed to Friday for more discussion and not for a hearing. He claimed to have received service of the interlocutory injunction from the federal government.
Falana stated that ASUU is now holding meetings with key players to ensure that this ongoing situation is resolved. He urged the federal government to work with them to find a solution.
However, Justice Polycarp Hamman later decided to postpone the case to Monday 19, 2022.
