In Ogun State, a suspected cultist accidentally shot himself while loading and removing a live round from a locally produced pistol.

The Corps reported that the "pistol inadvertently exploded, resulting in catastrophic injuries on his left arm."

Jinai Sunday and other accomplices, who are "members of the Aiye Cult group," were meeting as usual in a bush near Kakanfo village in Obada-Owode, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State when the crime occurred, according to CP David Akinremi (rtd), commander of the Ogun Amotekun Corps.

Akinremi claims that after hearing a gunshot, the Amotekun Coordinator in Imeko-Afon instantly sprang into action and detained the injured suspect as well as one Adejare Kehinde based on reliable information.

The head of Amotekun said that the aforementioned Adejare Kehinde was later identified during questioning as "an agent who purchased locally made firearms for the gang from Republic of Benin."

Following an earlier confession by the first two suspects, Ogundele Elijah (alias Ogun 07), a member of the gang, was subsequently caught after confessing to being an ex-convict who had spent a six-month sentence in the Ilaro Correctional Center for cultism.

Other gang members who are still at large are being pursued by Corps agents.
