A remarkable statement made by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is that he will not sign any African players unless they agree not to compete in the African Cup of Nations.
The 73-year-old claims to 'love' the African players for Napoli but regrets having to pay them so much for their extended absences.
De Laurentiis exclaimed,
"I told them guys, don't talk to me about Africans anymore!" during a live-streamed event.
"I love them, but either they sign a document stating they won't participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, or else between that competition and the South American World Cup qualifying matches, these guys are never available!"
