The man, who has been identified as Ruan, was taking engagement photos with his fiancee at the Spruce Meadow when he was struck by lightning. He was taken to the hospital and later declared dead, according to the South China Morning Post.

Chinese authorities apparently issued a yellow weather warning, the third-highest in the nation's weather system, before to the lightning strike.

The couple made the decision to carry with their scheduled photo session in spite of the storm.

Images showed the rescue team moving the man in the pouring rain on a stretcher.

According to a 2017 report, strikes in China result in the death or injury of up to 4,000 people annually.


The sad news also comes six days after a British woman was struck by lightning in Croatia.
