The Edo State Government has started evacuating and rehabilitating beggars, mentally ill people, and other homeless people from main streets and markets in the Benin City metropolis.

According to "Operation Plan Edo," the evacuation and rehabilitation are being carried out by the Edo State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues in collaboration with a number of the state's security organizations.

In Benin City's GRA axis, which includes the Ihama, Boundary, and Country Home Roads axes as well as the Sapele Road and Ring Road axes, the crew evacuated more than 50 of these people.

The Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues' Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Barbara Osobajo, stated that although some of the destitute people would be reunited with their families, others will undergo rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

In her words;

"The Edo State Government in line with "Operation Plan Edo" aims to sanitize the state and reposition it for sustainable growth and development. The government has begun evacuating street beggars, those with mental disabilities, and other needy people from the Benin city.

"The operation began in the Benin metropolis and will be expanded to other parts of the state to ensure that we achieve a safe and sane Edo that we all will be proud to be associated with, the Permanent Secretary said.

"The persons who have been evacuated have been taken to various rehabilitation facilities within the state where they are being catered for, and will be reintegrated into the society after thorough care and rehabilitation.
