Gombe road accident, 9 killed and 11 injured
The Federal Traffic Safety Corps (FRSC) Gombe State Sector Command confirmed the death of nine people in a road accident on Thursday, June 16.
According to Sector Commander Felix Theman, the accident occurred at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at the Bomala junction on the Gombe southern bye-pass, as a result of brake failure from a trailer transporting gallons of vegetable oil.
According to Theman, the collision included 20 people, with nine of them confirmed deceased and 11 others suffering various degrees of injuries.
The injured victims were flown to the Gombe Specialists Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe (FTHG) for treatment, according to him.
Drivers should avoid speeding, especially in congested regions, according to the sector commander, who stated that the speed limit in the metropolis should not exceed 40 kilometers per hour.
Meanwhile, Babayaro Muhammad, the driver of the trailer truck who survived, said he lost control of the vehicle when the brakes failed.
Due to the darkness of the night, Babayaro was unable to determine the number of automobiles he collided with.
"When the brakes failed, I lost control of the truck and collided with multiple automobiles," he explained.
Dr. Abu Dahiru, the Commissioner for Health, expressed remorse for the event and asked motorists to be more cautious on the road.
He stated that the State Government has agreed to take up the survivors' medical bills and provide them with N50,000 apiece.
Dahiru prayed for the dead's repose and begged their relatives to accept it as God's will.
