Liverpool beats Chelsea on a penalty shootout to win Emirates FA Cup.
Liverpool beat Chelsea on Saturday night, May 14 to win the Emirates FA Cup for the eighth time in club history.
The Reds won the League for the first time in 16 years by defeating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a goalless 90-minute stalemate at Wembley.
The clubs couldn't be separated after 120 minutes of football in a rematch of the Carabao Cup final from February, forcing a penalty shootout. When Cesar Azpilicueta missed from 12 yards, Liverpool was one kick away from glory when Sadio Mane stepped up, but Edouard Mendy saved him.
So the shootout went to sudden death, and after Mason Mount's spot-kick was saved by Alisson, Kostas Tsimikas stepped up, beat Mendy, and sent the Blues to their third FA Cup final defeat. A disappointing result for Thomas Tuchel and his team.
Liverpool's victory in the FA Cup final was their second trophy of the season, following their Carabao Cup triumph against Chelsea in February.
It is Jurgen Klopp's sixth cup and increases Liverpool's men's football team's total to 50 major titles in their history.
The Reds have won the FA Cup on prior occasions in 1965, 1974, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, and 2006.
