IPOB IS NOT ON OUR LIST OF Terrorist Groups, NOR IS IT PROHIBITED IN THE UK – The United Kingdom clarifies a contentious document.

In a statement acquired on Friday, the UK denied rumors that it had designated the organization as terrorists.

The Nigerian government said the UK's stance was a positive move that should be followed up with appropriate actions in a statement published by the presidency's spokesman, Garba Shehu.

However, the British High Commission in Abuja claimed on Friday that this was not the case.

According to UK statement:

"We are aware of erroneous media and online allegations that the UK Government has put the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK's list of terrorist groups or organizations outlawed under UK law," it says. These claims are false. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not a banned group in the United Kingdom.

In a statement released by the presidency's spokesman, Garba Shehu, the Nigerian administration said the UK's stance was a constructive step that should be followed up with appropriate actions.

The British High Commission in Abuja, on the other hand, stated on Friday that this was not the case.

It says, "We are aware of false media and online accusations that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK's list of terrorist groups or organizations proscribed under UK law." These assertions are untrue. In the United Kingdom, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not a prohibited group.

"The CPIN on separatist groups in the South East, particularly the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), assesses the dangers posed by members of those groups in general. "This CPIN also recognizes that the Nigerian government has designated IPOB as a terrorist organization, that some IPOB members have reportedly used violence against the government and members of the public, and that persons who have committed human rights violations should not be granted protection."
