Fear has descended on the Iggah community in Enugu State after gunmen wielding lethal weapons such as the Ak 4 raided the area three times, killing four of its important leaders. Mr. Rapheal Amuche, 58, the community's President General, David Nwabisi Anikwe, Vice Chairman, Iggah Neighborhood Watch and Chairman, PCRC, Adani police, and Herbert Igwebuike Anene a.k.a Okala were among those killed.
Herbert Anene was lounging in front of his house with a friend, Daniel Okonkwo, when members of the murder gang arrived on a motorcycle and concentrated the motorcycle's blinding headlight on the two people before opening fire with rifles.
Herbert Anene was believed to have passed out and rolled around on the ground till he died. Okonkwo, on the other hand, was shot in both legs and bled to death. The killers retreated into the darkness through the bush path after confirming that their objective was completed. Those who fled during the shooting returned to find Anene and Okonkwo's lifeless bodies covered in blood.
The killers struck again on February 17, 2022, this time in Adani, a neighboring town where Vice Chairman Iggah neighborhood watch and Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, David Anikwe resided.
They monitored him as he relaxed in front of his house, then arrived on motorcycles and opened fire with AK47s at close range. He collapsed and died as his assailants sped away on their motorcycle. The killers were seen and recognized by the victim's sons. Fear gripped the towns when word reached Igga.
