Deborah's Mother: None of my 7 children’ll go to school again.
Mrs. Alheri Emmanuel, the mother of Deborah, who was gruesomely murdered by a mob of her classmates at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto last Thursday, has vowed to never send any of her remaining seven children to school again in order to avoid the fate that befell her promising daughter.
She spoke as Mr. Emmanuel Garba, the slain Deborah's husband and father, announced that as good Christians, he and his family had determined not to seek retribution in court over their daughter's death, but to leave everything to God.
Following the protest that followed the incident last Friday, the Sokoto State government yesterday postponed the commencement of classes for one week.
Even as Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, a well-known Islamic preacher, condemned Deborah's murder yesterday, claiming that Prophet Mohammed was ridiculed while alive but never killed anyone.
Deborah's mother told Vanguard yesterday that the family had eight children, but that due to the tragic incident, none of the seven surviving children would be permitted to return to school in order to avoid a repeat of the ordeal.
"What has happened to me is my cross, and I will surely carry it," Mrs Alheri said, her voice heavy with emotion. "However, none of my seven surviving children will ever go to school again."
Mrs. Alheri, who was recently released from the hospital due to the shock, said she was recovering and was certain that she would soon recover.
Deborah was the eldest child of her parents' eight children.
